(4) Providing in-house calibration services to R&D &testing Laboratories of CSIR-CIMFR for calibration of equipment to meet the technical competence as per ISO 9001:2008 requirements.

II. ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE SECTION:

To cater the growing and varying needs of scientists and other researchers in the field of new installation, instrumentation, electrical connection, estimation of electrical work etc., in connection with R&D projects besides normal routine day-to-day electrical maintenance work.

iii. TRANSPORT SECTION:

To provide vehicle as per requirement and at schedule time to the footstep of the requisitor.

IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE SECTIONS:

SECTION-I: ELECTRICAL DESIGN SECTION

The input, exclusively provided by this laboratory specifically in this field of study for the mining/aerial/material handling ropeway installations, has rendered yeomen service to the institute. This has provided ease and fruitful guidance to the rope manufacturers as well as to the practical rope users in handling their R&D problems and the decisive jobs of management of rope industries in discharging their duties more efficiently.
Steel wire ropes are usually subjected to severe working conditions in hazardous areas like mining and aerial ropeway passenger cable car installations. The deterioration of ropes caused due to working environmental conditions, wear, abrasion, corrosion, broken wires etc. are to be monitored at periodic interval for its safe and economic use in the installation. Negligence in timely removal of the rope after critical stage will result in fatal accidents and loss of life to personnel due to rope failure. In absence of any other method for evaluation of rope deterioration which cannot be assessed by visual examination only on lengthy ropes, non-destructive investigation is the only means of rope evaluation enabling safe optimum utilization of wire ropes.
A good number of projects on in-situ study of conditions and behaviour of steel wire ropes in the mine winders have been undertaken from (1) Pootkee-Balihari Project, BCCL, Dhanbad, (2) Moonidih Colliery, Western Jharia area, BCCL, Dhanbad, (3) Main installation and IIIrd stage of Cage & Skip winders at Jaduguda Mines (UCIL), (4) Main installation of Cage & Skip winders at Narwapahar Mines (UCIL), (5) Kolihan Copper Mines of Hindustan Copper Ltd., Khetrinagar, Rajastan, (6) The Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Kothagudem Collieries, Telengana etc. The management authorities of aerial ropeway installations at different corners of the country do sponsor the R&D projects for carrying out the in-situ study and advice on the condition of haulage and track ropes. These installations include: (a) Passenger Cable Car installation at Trikutpahar, Deoghar, Jharkhand, (b) Passenger Cable Car installation at Timber Trail, Asia Resorts Ltd, Parwanoo (HP), (c) “Aerial Express’ at Nainital of KMVN, (d) Sri NainaDeviji ropeway system at HP, (e) M/s Inclined Carries Trolley & Decks of Bhakra Dam, Punjab (f) Cable car installation at Gangtok, Sikkim, (g) Darjeeling Ranjeet Valley (DRV) ropeway at Darjeeling (WB), (h) Ropeway installation at Science City, Kolkata (WB), (i) Passenger Ropeway at Maihar, MP etc.
Besides, a sizeable number of different electric cable samples are being received from the cable manufacturers for investigational study by judging the conformity as per requirements of relevant IS. Inadequate quality of the cables will result in fire accidents, downtime and may cause life to miners. The results have shown academic interests on electric cables.
Recently one societal mission project on rural electrification work (RGGVY – Rajiv Gandhi GrameenVidyutikaranYojana) of 9 (nine) districts in 10 (ten) packages of Nagaland has been carried out as Third Party Inspection Agency (TPIA). Quality and quantity audit of rural electrification work in Nagaland has been carried out by CIMFR. A total population of 16,76,294 (according to 2011 census) have been benefitted in Nagaland after completion of RGGVY project in 9 (nine) districts of Nagaland.
Also, in recent time, whole electrical energy audit (preliminary and detailed audit) has been carried out at Narwapahar mines, a constituent of Uranium Corporation of India Limited, Govt. of India. From literature review, it can be concluded that mine electrical safety and energy management is really daunting in industries especially in mining industries. Electrical energy audit has been carried out in two different phases at Narwapahar mines.
In-house calibration facility at CIMFR HQ was developed to extend the in-house calibration services to testing laboratories of CIMFR for the calibration of measuring instruments as per the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. Creation of in-house calibration facility enables Testing Laboratories of CIMFR to get their instruments calibrated at a regular interval and also according to their requirements to ensure that instruments are functioning properly and complying with the manufacturer specifications.

SECTION-II: ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE SECTION

Keeping in view of energy conservation measures and concepts in relevant fields, use of energy efficient motors in the water pumps and minimization of distribution losses in the estate are being monitored through operational improvements and good house-keeping. For smooth running of R&D and testing activities in the laboratory, facilities of power supply through diesel generator sets are also extended at the time of power failure. This also has facilitated in running water pumps for smooth supply of water to the estate. Infrastructural facilities for electrical connection, new decorative modern electrical wirings in sophisticated laboratories, illuminations etc. are also provided in a number of occasions during organization of various seminars, symposia, conferences etc. A team of experienced, skilled and highly-abled supervisors and electricians is always ready to take up the challenging jobs of overhead problems, switchgears, cable faults and faults in sophisticated testing machines and renders the desired services with the latest technology, improved skill and talent.

SECTION-III: TRANSPORT SECTION

Arranged vehicles for SSBMT and different seminars at lowest cost, maintaining per Km maintenance cost in lower side and fuel average of vehicle in higher side.
