MANDATE:
(1) Geotechnical study for optimum slope design of coal and non-coal open cast mines and dumps, (2) Prediction of instability in mines and dumps. (3) 3D-mine modeling and excavation volume computation of opencast coal and non-coal mines (4) ground and materials characterization for Civil Engineering Projects Surveying,
IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
(1) Design of 372m deep RampuraAgucha Lead Zinc mine, HZL besides design of more than 70 mines. It would be the deepest opencast mine in India (2) Established the causes of landslides at three sites (in Aizawl, Manipur and Sikkim) in the NE Himalayas and suitable remedial measures were suggested for the safety of hill slopes and road cuttings of strategic importance. This study was sponsored by Defence Terrain Research Laboratory (DTRL), DRDO,Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India (3) Initiated, motivated and guided to establish geo-technical laboratory/ Slope Stability Cell for upgrading knowledge and improving work culture of Mining personnel for greater safety and productivity atTata Steel, Hindustan Zinc Ltd, Rajasthan State Mines Minerals Ltd and Central Mine Planning and Design Institute, Coal India (4) ground and materials characterization for Civil Engineering Projects at local level under societal mission.
