Admissions to AcSIR PhD programmes are conducted twice in a year. The Participating CSIR Labs announces the admission criteria and procedure of admission through National Dailies and Web media. Shortlisted candidates fulfilling the shortlisting criteria of respective participating CSIR Labs will be called for test and / or interview by the Selection Committees of the respective laboratories of CSIR.

Based on the Academic record and the performance of the candidates in the test and / or interview, the Selection Committee of the concerned CSIR Laboratory recommends names of the selected candidates to the respective Deans.

The number of candidates called for test/interview will be commensurate with the number of seats/requirements in each laboratory.

Welcome to Online Admission Portal of AcSIR

For Admission Process, you need to follow two phases:

1. Registration phase

2. Complete Application form Fill-up process

  1. In Registration phase, once you successfully register yourself, you will be receiving auto email on your email-id with login credentials and link to be re-directed for further complete admission form fill-up process with unique Registration Number.
  2. Application form fill-up process is divided into three steps:

2. Confirmation Step

3. Print Acknowledgement of Admission Receipt with Unique Form Number

  1. Important dates of admission process will be flashed on Portal.
  2. Only one application is allowed for an applicant. If, at any time, it is found that more than one application is filled by a candidate then the candidature will be summarily rejected.
  3. Short-listed candidates will be intimated electronically and they will be required to appear for interview for selection at the designated centres on the dates announced.
  4. In addition to their academic performance and/or depending on the vacancies, final selection will be based on performance of the candidate in the aptitude test/ interview.

Eligibility Criteria for PhD (Engineering) Direct PhD (Engineering) and Sponsored PhD (Engineering)

PhD (Engineering):

Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Pharmacy with a good academic record or with a Master's degree in Sciences with a good academic record and with a valid GATE score or UGC/ CSIR-NET/ NBHM or valid CSIR-JRF/ SRF or equivalent fellowship.
Project Assistants, Senior Research Fellows and CSIR Scientists are also eligible to apply (as per AcSIR Ordinance No. 3.6.2).

Direct PhD (Engineering):

Candidates having following qualifica tions are eligible to apply:

  1. B.E. / B.Tech with CGPA 8.5 / 85% Marks + valid GATE / NET (Engg) (Rank greater than 2000)
  2. B.E. / B.Tech with CGPA 8.5 / 85% Marks +2 years experience as PA/CSIR SRF.
  3. B.E. / B.Tech or M.Sc. with CGPA 8.5 / 85% Marks and/or Ranked first in University + National level fellowship.

Sponsored PhD (Engineering):

Regular: M.Tech (or equivalent) degree in Engeering*
Direct: Undergraduate degree in Engineering with CGPA of at least 8.5 / 85% marks and/or 1st Rank holder in University/Institution*
*with endorsement from Industry for required academic leave and financial support during program.

About Summer Training Program

Summer Training Program at AcSIR provides an opportunity to spend one of your summers working at premier research Laboratories of CSIR with some of the leading scientists in India, in an environment which promotes trans-disciplinary research.
The program is supported/ funded by AcSIR through its AcSIR-Kalam Fellowship.

Fellowship Details:

  1. Total number of Fellowships : 20*
  2. Duration: Two months; Between the months of May and August
  3. Amount of Fellowship: Rs. 25000/- per student for the duration of the program (payable after successful completion of the training program and submission of project report to the Laboratory Coordinator)
  4. Travel allowance to the selected student: Reimbursable to a maximum of Rs. 5000 per selected student
  5. This is a compulsorily Residential Program where the selected students would be required to stay on campus of the respective CSIR Labs on charge basis.

Who Can Apply?

  1. 1st year of 2-year M.Sc program: minimum first-class at B.Sc level
  2. 3rd or 4th year of a 5-year Integrated M.Sc program: GPA 6.0 or 60% (upto IV Sem)
  3. 1st year of 2-year M.E/M.Tech program: GPA 8.0 or 80% OR GPA 7.0 or 70% for CFTIs at B.E/B.Tech level or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100
  4. 3rd year of B.E/ B.Tech program: GPA 8.0 or 80% OR GPA 7.0 or 70% for CFTIs (upto IV Sem)
  5. 3rd or 4th year of Integrated M.E/M.Tech program: GPA 8.0 or 80% OR GPA 7.0 or 70% for CFTIs (upto IV Sem) or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100
