Our Mandate

To be a centre of excellence for scientific research and industrial technologies in the area of Explosion-

Proof equipment used in hazardous areas and to contribute in innovation, economic and societal growth.

About us:

The flameproof and equipment safety department is one of the oldest lab of CSIR-CIMFR and having

state of art facility in India for testing and design evaluation of explosion proof electrical and non-

electrical equipment for hazardous areas since CSIR-CIMFR’s inception in 1956. The FES laboratory

is involved in the testing and certification of Explosion proof equipment like Flameproof (Ex d),

Intrinsically safe (Ex i), Pressurized (Ex p), Increased safety (Ex e), Non sparking tools, Conveyer belt,

Exploders, Flame arrester, Brattice cloth etc. and also involved in inspection and maintenance of

electrical installations in hazardous areas as per IS/IEC requirements. The laboratory also organizes

‘Executive development program’ for ONGC executives for safe use of electrical equipment in

hazardous location.

➢ NABL Accredited laboratory

➢ Development of electrical/battery/diesel operated stacker/forklift for use in hazardous

installations.

➢ Five days executive training for engineers on ‘Explosion proof equipment’

➢ Student training for project dissertations at Diploma, B.Tech, M.Tech.

Major projects:

The laboratory has done various sponsored projects for different industries (Govt. as well as

private) like BHEL, ONGC, IOCL, Dinesh Pvt. Ltd., ECIL, EICL etc

• Assessment of electrical safety parameters of increased safety (Ex ‘e’) cum Non-sparking (Ex

‘n’) motors and pressurized (Ex ‘p’) panel for use in hazardous area.

• Studies on healthiness monitoring of electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas of oil

fields and other petrochemical refineries etc

• Evaluation of system design for flameproof equipment including EOT cranes and air

conditioner of different capacity for use in defence hazardous installations.

• Service to industries like manufacturing of flameproof electrical equipment to new

manufacturers
