About Us

Water Resource Management Group (WRM) is a department with multidisciplinary talent to provide comprehensive methodology for water quality assessment, planning for water resource management and delivering sustainable solutions for treatment of water and wastewater. The research group covers broad spectrum research ranging from hydrogeological studies, geochemical characterization of water and wastewater, contaminant source apportionment, risk assessment and health hazards mapping to development of cost effective technology for wastewater treatment and its utilization for societal benefits. The group works with special focus on a scientific and technical understanding of natural resources and the life-supporting capacity of those resources. The group is accredited by NABET in the area of EIA-EMP study of mining and coal washery and serving mining industries for environmental clearance and compliance.

  • Preparation of more than 30 EIA/EMP study reports for mining industries to obtain environmental clearance from MOEFCC, New Delhi
  • Development of cost effective technology to reclaim mine water for drinking purposes and its subsequent demonstration through installation of 4000 LPH capacity pilot plant at Pootkee mine site, Jharia coalfield
  • Carrying capacity based developmental study of Damodar River Basin
  • Groundwater quality assessment of National Capital Region, covering 5 districts of UP, 9 districts of Haryana and 9 districts of National Territory of Delhi under National Aquifer Mapping Project
  • Water quality data base generation, interpretation and quality assessment for exploratory wells drilled at various locations in Ghazipur district, UP and Punjab
  • Development of treatment process for removal of hexavalent chromium and arsenic in water
  • Integrated cost effective technology for attaining Zero liquid discharge in steel plants with emphasis on slag utilization
  • Utilization of low cost liner for disposal of ash into abandoned open-cast mines
  • Development of zeolites from fly ash for water treatment
  • Modified Heavy Metal Pollution Index (m-HPI) for indexing heavy metal pollution in groundwater

  • Scientists from the Research Group has been bestowed upon several awards/honour such as National Geoscience Award, ISCA Young Scientist Award, Commonwealth Academy Fellowship and Best Paper Awards for their contribution in sustainable mining and environmental management. The Research Group has successfully completed many prestigious projects from different Ministries and International agencies like the World Bank, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Water Resources, Department of Science & Technology etc.
